Longo has been contracted to install one of the first battery projects in the Northeast to support superior grid stability. This 16MW battery system will keep the lights on for tens of thousands of customers in times of high-power demand, eliminating the risk of brownouts, blackouts, or forced curtailment.
The batteries act as a giant shock absorber, designed to handle sudden power surges, and reduce overall stress on the electrical infrastructure. When called upon by the power company, this giant battery system will inject massive amounts of electrical power into the grid to stabilize it—in a matter of seconds. Once the power is reversed back, the batteries are then re-charged and ready for the next occurrence.
